Rod Lucas is by
profession an electronics engineer and has been in bus preservation
for many years. Some years earlier
before his entry into preservation, he spent two periods as
a full time bus driver and during these times, at the suggestion
of his wife, he recorded many of the daily events with the
intention of sending them to the television company who were
screening the series ‘On the Buses’. They both
agreed that the series missed many of the humorous everyday
happenings that were related, and there were situations that
could be expanded upon by a good scriptwriter; it didn’t
get that far because the series finished. But here they are.
Some of the situations are amusing, some serious – but
for all, his in-built humour and patience gave him great support.
Rod Lucas later moved to Chiswick Works for a time and the
experiences of his employment there are also related in the
book.
